Sarah’s Story
From the beaches of Costa Rica to the coastal rainforests of Vancouver Island, Sarah has spent her life seeking adventure, connecting with natural surroundings, and sharing unique stories. Growing up on the Pacific coast, Sarah spent most of her time diving, surfing, and fishing while fostering a profound reverence for the natural world. She is keenly interested in ecological restoration, conservation, and policy solutions that can curb rising
oceans, acidification, and loss of biodiversity. When she is not working or writing, Sarah can be found in the forest, estuary, or in the ocean, usually always with a camera. She spends limitless hours researching obscure critters or fringe climate change solutions. She lives with her wife and cat in Shawnigan Lake, Vancouver Island, BC.
Nature & Conservation Photography
When I go out to take photographs of “nature” I try to capture not only beautiful images of that species, but also their natural habitats, their threats, and the work that’s being done to protect them. Some images may be more artful, and others will try to tell a holistic story. There is always more than what meets the eye, and my goal is to make sure the animals, plants, and people who call these places home are witnessed and their stories are shared truthfully.
Adventure & Family Photography
Connecting with people is the backbone to photography. It’s how you can capture a moment, whether that’s on a remote hike or between a parent and their child sharing a smile. In my Family Adventure photography sessions I’m there to witness and capture moments that make up intricate and profound relationships, whether that is with each other or with an activity a family loves, or both. An “adventure” doesn’t have to be a monumental undertaking either; it can be a walk on the beach, moving into a new home, or starting a new chapter in life.
